Timeline clips now show a real filmstrip across their full width
AetherCut v1.6.6 shipped on with 6 updates to the private, browser-based video editor. Everything here is already included in the latest version. AetherCut edits on your own device, so your footage never has to be uploaded to a server.
What's new in v1.6.6
- Each clip on the timeline now displays 10 evenly-spaced thumbnail frames sampled from across the clip's actual duration — like Premiere, DaVinci, FCP, and CapCut
- Filmstrip extracts asynchronously after import (~2-3 seconds) so the editor never blocks; until it lands, the clip falls back to tiling the single thumbnail across its width
- Replaces the previous '3 small thumbnails on the left + colored block on the right' look that left wider clips visually empty
- Bottom gradient overlay keeps clip name and duration readable over the filmstrip
- Hard 12s timeout per clip means corrupt or stalled codecs gracefully fall back without blocking the UI
- Shipped in direct response to feedback from a Reddit user — thanks for the catch
